I Don’t Have a Therapist, I Have a Shower and a Scrub
✨ The Shower Is My Only Peace: Why a Good Body Scrub Is Basically Therapy
If there is one sacred space left for mothers of teenage girls, it’s the shower.
Not Target.
Not the car.
Not even the bathroom in general—because apparently “closed door” is teen code for “come ask mom something extremely non-urgent.”
But the shower?
Oh, that’s my sanctuary.
My spa.
My emotional reset button.
My 7-minute meditation retreat that I have to pay absolutely nothing for, except water pressure and sanity. I do not care sometimes I take 3 showers a day. Its like it just washes the worry away!
…Well, until someone knocks to ask,
“Mom, have you seen my hoodie? Like, the black one? No, not that black one. The other black one.”
Yes sweetheart, I’m sure it’s in the magical abyss where everything you own disappears until I find it in 10 seconds.
But that little interruption aside, the shower is where I go to pretend my life is together.
It’s where I run through imaginary conversations, remember things from 2009, and create entire business plans that only sound genius under hot water.
And most importantly?
It’s where I exfoliate like it’s a personality trait.
✨ Why My Body Scrub Is My Version of Therapy
Listen—some people meditate.
Some people journal.
Some people do yoga in matching sets.
Me?
I scrub off the stress.
There is something so healing and strangely powerful about using a good body scrub.
Not a cheap one.
Not a weird jelly one.
Not the crumbly grocery-store kind that feels like wet cat litter.
A real scrub.
One that melts, hydrates, smooths, and makes you feel like you’re living a life where your kids don’t ask for DoorDash every 3 hours.
That moment when the sugar or salt hits your skin?
Instant peace.
Instant reset.
Instant “Wow, maybe I actually am doing okay.”
Because exfoliating isn’t just skincare.
It’s coping.
It’s reclaiming your body and mind from teenage chaos.
It’s reminding yourself that you deserve softness and glow—even when you’re running on iced coffee and sarcasm.
And since this shower is literally my weekly spa appointment, you better believe I use the good scrub.
The one I make myself.
The one that makes my bathroom smell like a boutique I can’t afford but definitely walk through like I can.
This all started when I bought a Really Clean body wash and I would literally crave a shower just to use it. I swore its scent just brought me a sense of calm and peace. I have become more selective about what I use in the shower, paying closer attention to ingredients and textures, and that led me to start creating my own body scrub. I had been having a hard time finding any on the market that met my standards and preferences. Just being able to make a texture and scent that is for me has changed my whole skincare game. Those little bumps that show up on the back of your arms or legs, GONE!
✨ The Mom Reality Behind the Glow
Everyone talks about “self-care,” but let’s be honest:
Most moms are surviving on dry shampoo, 43 tabs open, and the emotional stamina of a woman who refuses to quit. You know, because HUSSLE culture has a hold on us.
We don’t need 10 steps.
We don’t need expensive treatments.
We don’t need a wellness retreat in Sedona (though I wouldn’t say no).
We need moments.
Small, simple moments that make us feel human again.
For me, that’s exfoliating.
It’s the ritual that slows me down.
It’s the thing that makes my skin feel soft and my brain feel quiet.
It’s the habit that reminds me:
I can still take care of myself even while taking care of everyone else.
And honestly?
My daughters see it.
They see me slowing down and making time for tiny rituals.
They see me model balance, not burnout.
