Courtney’s POV

Whole Ingredient Living Skincare · Herbs · Oils · Lifestyle

For a long time, the beauty industry has tried to convince us that professional results only come from a lab. But after years of looking for real solutions to hormone imbalances and diving into the history of the beauty industry, I realized that the most potent transformations often start in the kitchen. When we understand the why behind our ingredients, we can stop using products that act as a personal band-aid that keeps us rebuying and retrying so many products. It was time to start cultivating a routine that is actually whole.

One of the most effective rituals I have brought into my own vanity is a slow-infused clove and vanilla serum. While store-bought serums often sit on shelves for months, losing their vitality, making this at home allows you to capture the peak antioxidant power of the ingredients. Cloves are incredibly rich in eugenol, which clarifies the skin and soothes minor irritations almost overnight. When paired with the polyphenols in a whole vanilla bean, you create a treatment that balances and nourishes without the synthetic fillers found in high-end commercial bottles.

To begin this ritual, you will need four ounces of organic golden jojoba oil, five to seven whole dried cloves, and one whole vanilla bean. Jojoba is the base of this recipe because it closely mimics the natural oils our skin produces, making it an ideal carrier for the botanical properties of the herbs.

Start by splitting the vanilla bean down the middle to expose the seeds. Place the bean and the cloves into a clean, dry glass jar and pour the jojoba oil over them until they are completely submerged. To get the best results, place the jar in a warm, sunny spot for two to four weeks. Shaking the jar gently every few days helps the infusion process along, allowing the oil to pull the clarifying properties from the cloves and the soothing scent from the vanilla.

Once the infusion is complete, strain the oil through a piece of cheesecloth into a glass dropper bottle. I like to apply a few drops to damp skin in the evening, pressing it in with my palms. It feels less like a step in a chore and more like a moment of intentional care. By shifting from high-end chemicals to these limited, whole ingredients, you aren't just cleaning up your vanity; you are elevating your entire approach to health.
